Summer Cup Series #4

Posted by sgl Blizzard on 2nd Jul 2009 @ 11:16am - 6 Comments

On the 7th of July (Next Tuesday) theSGL will host the 4th Summer Series Cup admined by Allen. This time, with Season 10 on its final week we are deciding to use uncommon maps. So far the cups have gone fairly well but I must stress teams need to report to Allen 30 minutes before the start time in order for the cup to run smoothly.

As a change, we are going to open the sign ups a few days earlier allowing more teams a chance to sign up. On Sunday, sign ups will close and teams will be picked. The following day, Allen will contact you and ask for 4 maps of your choice (out of a map pool). The map chosen the most will end up as the Round 1 map, the second most chosen map will be the Round 2 map and so on...

Map Pool:

de_cpl_strike
de_cpl_fire
de_tuscan
de_contra
de_aztec
de_torn
de_cbble
de_dust

* Read This *

The rule we implemented after the first cup is that on the night of the cup, a representative of each team participating in the cup must message Allen 30 minutes before the start on IRC (#theSGL on Quakenet) to say that your team is here and ready to play. We are doing this so we have time find replacements. Please follow this rule...

Two maps to nil. The final scoreline doesn't begin to tell the whole story of the match last night as eu Urban Vikingz took uk Dignitas.CS to overtime on dust2 eventually losing out sixteen rounds to nineteen, before going down on the traditionally strong Dignitas map of Nuke by some sixteen rounds to four.

Four teams return to face the vote this time around

This leaves room for eleven new pretenders to the throne:

The match will be played on Monday July 13th from 8pm and will feature the best of three maps format as is usual with SteelSeries King of the HIll matches. The vote will close this coming Monday 6th July.

If your team is not signed up for this event or has recently been knocked out of the voting stage or the match itself then all you need to do to get yourself back in the running for another try is to sign up again. You can finda link to the registration page for this event at the bottom of this section. Please remember that it is entirely up to you who will play in this match so before the comments of "it's always [insert team name here]" start to fly once again - do something about it and get behind your "local" team. You've got the vote , so make sure you use it.

Summer Cup Series #3

Posted by sgl Blizzard on 29th Jun 2009 @ 9:52am - 20 Comments

Tomorrow will see another installment of the summer series cups hosted by Allen. The cups so far have gone well so lets continue the trend this week and have another competitive summer cup.

Teams which are participating in these cups must now be aware of an additional rule. To keep the cup running as smooth as possible, we will require one representative from each participating team to contact Allen and idle in the IRC channel #theSGL (Quakenet) 30minutes before the game. This will allow us time to find replacements if teams don’t show. Also if you aren’t going to show up and do not give a reason or tell us, Allen will just not include you in any SGL summer series cups and I may just ignore your application for any other SGL competitions.

The maps for this competition will stay secret until tonight where we will update the post with the teams accepted and the map list.

CS 1.6 Uk Reschedules

Posted by sgl Blizzard on 26th Jun 2009 @ 8:43am - 25 Comments

After having a few busy weeks I have finally got round to going through the CS1.6 leagues. With Invite and Premiership coming up to there final week it seems appropriate to announce what is happening with the many reschedules in all divisions. Since the reshuffle the overall turn up rate has gone up and the response to Allen’s summer cups is very good.

The matches which are outstanding are stated below; these have all been set to 8th July 2009 this does not mean they will be played then. This basically means the games MUST be played by then. I will not be arranging them I have done enough running around this season. It is your responsibility as clans to organise a time and date and let me (Blizzard) know over personal message on the website. Friday and Saturday games will not be accepted due to the admins not being about. If the games aren’t played by the 8th July I will void them and neither team will get the points. Once the reschedules are completed the playoffs will begin

Reschedules:

Tomorrow will see another installment of the summer series cups hosted by Allen. I believe the first cup went quite well apart from two teams which didn’t turn up and didn’t even let us know or give us a reason to why not. These two teams who I will name “Bulletproof and xtreme9” will not be included in any more cups.

Teams which are participating in these cups must now be aware of an additional rule. uk TMGamers and eu Urban Vikingz - a fixture that was looking to be a good match, until uk TMGamers unfortuantly had to pull out last minute, due to recent lineup changes, resulting in the vikings getting paid their £100 for sitting around looking pretty - the kind of work cRueL^ specialises in.

So with eu Urban Vikingz picking up a default win last week, we are now looking for a new team to be voted in to battle it out for the place at the top of the hill, and of course the £100 a win prize money.

The vote this week contains five times previous KoTH winners and current UK champions uk Dignitas, as well as the newley formed

Summer Cup Series Begins

It’s been a long time since theSGL has had anything positive to say about cs1.6, this season has just seen me constantly fighting a battle with defaults and inactive teams. Well after a more positive week last Sunday in the league, we believe its time to breathe some life into the old game. The man who has volunteered himself for this job is Allen from versatile, as I’m sure you are all aware of him I will dispense with the full introduction and just say we welcome him into theSGL admin team.

Allen will be running weekly one night cups for cs1.6 gamers over the summer; I believe the plan is to keep to the normal maps until the league is over to help teams practice. Once the league is done more “fun” maps will be introduced, we may even see a return of the famous de_sglstone. I have bullet pointed below important information which you will need to know:

  • Games will be on your own servers
  • Players must be on your roster however the wait time will be ignored.
  • SGLAC must be used, as ever if you don’t use it your team will be removed from the cup.
  • A leader or manager must be in #theSGL @quakenet on IRC 15minutes before match time.
  • No prizes these are fun cups however if you win and you want VIP I will set it up for you. (Just pm me on the website)

The first installment of the Summer Series Cups will be this Thursday at 7pm and sign ups are open now. This will be open to 16 teams and will run on a first come first served basis. Teams will be posted a night before. Finally the maps will be:

Round 1: de_nuke
Round 2: de_dust2
Round 3: de_Inferno
Round 4: de_train

If the response is good to these cups we may run more than one over the week. On a final note many people say the game is dead maybe it is maybe it isn’t, over the next few months this question will be answered. theSGL started on CS1.6 and have continued to run competitions over the last five years. Even though we have expanded into other games we have stayed loyal to CS1.6 and once again we show our faith in the game with these cups. The question still remains whether there will be a season 11 its time for you the teams to answer.

After what was to be a disappointing two weeks for CS1.6 in theSGL with many invite/prem teams defaulting I have yet again tried to sort this out. With the season just finishing its fourth week this was very difficult decision at one point we was ready to drop cs1.6 all together. As previously stated here

In that forum post many ideas where put forward but the reality is that we are half way through a season and all the ideas were either too drastic or things we had tried before which didn’t work. With this in mind I took the decision to once more try and rescue this season. At this time please note this will be the last time this season I will be doing anything like this as it takes far too much time for so far very little reward.

So what have I done, I’ve basically moved teams about that’s putting it very simply. As simple as this sounds it’s not been an easy decision and has took me best part of two hours to reset matches etc. At this point I would like to express my apologies to two teams. With the decision I made there were always going to be teams which came out worse unfortunately it was going to be the teams that have turned up as they are still in the league. So Urban Vikingz and The Last Resort have theSGL apologies and my personal apologies.

So basically I have removed teams and moved teams up from other divisions however it was not fair on those teams moved up to inherit results (especially when they had won all there games) so therefore those games will need to be replayed. (All games will be scheduled out with me adding the appropriate time on at the end of the season).

The changes:

Invite
Trademark gamers have been replaced by premiership team Strong.
Imperial have been replaced by premiership team SHINRYUKEN!
Wildstyles have had there games all defaulted

Premiership
Strong have moved to invite Locked have taken there place
SHINRYUKEN! Have moved to invite Mega Chetsmode united
Sploshed! Have had there games all defaulted

Championship
Locked moved to premiership no one will replace them all games defaulted
Mega Chetsmode united to premiership no one will replace them all games defaulted

The teams which have moved up are the teams which were top of there divisions and turned up to each game. I decided not to move anyone up from league tier due to the fact league tier is the only tier which is playing the majority of there games. All this does mean however there is an extra space for teams to get promoted into.

Moving swiftly on below is a obvious but important guideline:

Reschedules: Generally reschedules are not allowed however if you have to reschedule a game tell me via personal message on the website however I need a set time and date for when this match will be played. (end of the season isnt a good enough date) Most of all though keep me informed.

As I’ve done with the CSS I have opened up sign ups for the league tier if any teams would like to replace a team in league tier you have 24 hours to show your interest you can sign up here

Now before we all do the CS1.6 thing and jump on the admins back because we haven’t promoted your team or we have said you have to replay these matches take a step back I was forced into this decision by the teams not turning up. If teams that signed up in the first place turned up none of this would have happened. You have from now until the end of the season to show that theSGL should keep putting in as much effort as we do for cs1.6. It up to "you" the teams now.

eu Urban Vikingz
corn asterisk
#3 IN DIV : P 1 W 1 L 0 D 0
#2 IN DIV : P 2 W 2 L 0 D 0
eu Urban Vikingz come into this game after a week off from SGL: Invite fixtures [Also known as: ‘A Game against uk TMGamers’] and are still sitting happy on played one - won one. The team have really been looking strong for a number of weeks now and a victory in this fixture will leave them on six points with a game in hand moving into week four. Pre-season uV were not the team everyone was looking at to be a major contender for the SGL: Invite title, but the way things are shaping up at the moment I can see uV doing a lot of damage over the course of the season, and a top three finish is certainly on the cards if not a direct challenge for the title.

The opponents uV come to face this week are the “CSS” team that seems to be better at 1.6 than they are at CSS; corn asterisk currently sit level with uk #thelastresort [Former H2K] at the head of the table and if they should dare to win this game then I would seriously recommend dropping the “CSS” label. As ever en Gale “The magical carry-bag” is the player to watch out for when it comes to this team, maybe if the rest of them start to chip in properly we might actually see an Invite winning performance over the next few weeks, but let’s not hold our breath.

This should be uV’s game for the taking, they have been looking strong, motivated and on top of that they have their own Belgium magical carry-bag to rack up the kills – if they bring their A-game then it should be in the bag. With that said if asterisk do win this game, something really needs to be done about the “CSS” aspect of their name, and on top of that they should actually wake up and realise that just maybe there’s some potential to do more in the 1.6 world.

ukie vitalsigns can’t be the happiest bunch on the planet at the moment, with a game in hand and a 14-16 loss to their name moving into week three I can only imagine that vital vent isn’t as happy as per normal. Looking at the way the other games have gone so far it seems that this is one of the fixtures vital simply must win if they are to be given any credit as an invite team. The squad is actually looking fairly stable for once, some practice in hand over the past few days and when it’s time to play I think vital will be ready.... Besides, have you seen who there playing? LOL.

en wildstyles, oh wildstyles – where did it all go so wrong for you? ...Forget I asked, let me answer it for you!
  • Stage one: choose a respectably awful name for a clan.
  • Stage two: get promoted to a division you have no place being, due to other teams pulling out or folding.
  • Stage three: Remove half of your active players after only two weeks after one of them is caught cheating in an SGL official [http://www.thesgl.com/assets/anticheat/screenshots/46697/d164a3330b63edbb825118d803203125.jpg];
  • Stage four: allow the banned player to then accuses other members of his own team of providing him with the ability to cheat on a public community website.
  • Stage Five: Still not have the common decency to change your awful name despite the fact that it might be the best thing you have ever done to move on from the aforementioned events.
Vital should rick roll if they bring a good game, then again wildstyles do technically have the advantage coming into this game since cheating your balls off can prove beneficial while in game.

uk #thelastresort are one of the hottest teams about at the moment, I don’t think it would be unfair to say behind tcm and Dignitas these guys are #3 UK right now and they only seem to be getting better. The current tally is played two, won two and they will certainly be looking to make it 3/3 this week when they take on se Authority. For once a UK team swapping out some old players for the new has not caused the team to fold (even if they did fall from grace in the eyes of H2K management), if anything the team is looking stronger than ever and if you can find some time to watch these guys play – it will be well worth it.

Authority are certainly the underdogs in this fixture, it will be a very tough game for such a young lineup but with the advantage of the opposition actually having walls this week it could turn out to be an interesting game. The team has the potential to do a lot of damage but if they can hold their nerve is another matter all together.
Look for tlr to be on the offensive from the get-go, they know how to play nuke better than most and this should be a great game for the spectators.

#2 IN DIV : P 2 W 1 L 1 D 0
SGL Premiership is without question the closest division we have going at the moment coming into week htree fixtures; dk strOng~ lead the way with six points and sadly for en team-decerto.com they are yet to register but that then leaves six teams on three points each. uk Inconcessus come into this fixture fresh off a solid victory last week over ukie YoYotech in which they really did show some true strength and character. This is a grand opportunity for them to carry their momentum on as they look for a further three points to add to their tally. A strong victory here will certainly move this team in the right direction and in such a closely fought league any points are to be welcomed.

Much like their opponents today ukie Say It Aint So come into this fixture with a win and a loss on their record. The pressure has really been on for these guys since io NicholaisoN left the team to rejoin the ever inactive uk TMGamers. Although it is still very early in the season SIAS were one of the favourites to take the title pre-season10, and if they want to keep those prospects alive a win is crucial here. A quick look at their roster should be a warning to all but when it comes down to the bottom line, only points make the difference.

This for me is a very telling game and will really show if SIAS do have what it takes to compete in this division, if the hype around these players is to be believed then their week1 loss to str0ng should be the only red mark we see on the results page this season, however inconcessus will be no push over as they look to show last week’s victory was no fluke. .

#4 IN DIV : P 2 W 1 L 1 D 0
Well, well, well.... a victory over en team-decerto.com and uk jog on finally have some points on the board, maybe just maybe there is life after all? The team have been putting out a very similar roster for a while now, and after their soul-destroying season nine performance I really didn’t expect to see much from them over these seven weeks, however with three points on the board as of seven days ago it is certainly make or break time for this team if they want to be taken seriously this season.

The victory last week over team-decerto was a well deserved one, however team-decerto are looking like they may well be the team to Premiership as Jogon were to Invite last season, this week ukie YoYotech stand in the way, a team coming off a loss but still a very decent set of players – if Jogon can pull out a win here it will certainly send a message to all.

As previously mentioned YoYotech do come into this fixture off the back of a loss last week when they fell short against uk Inconcessus; for them on paper this looks like an ideal next fixture, most will be expecting them to beat Jogon this week and if they play to their potential then i suspect they will do exactly that. The five man roster will be ready and willing to go come game time on Sunday night and as previously mentioned every point counts when the league is so close.

I would dearly love to see Jogon take down YoYotech this week, not for any personal reasons but they are a bunch of oldschoolers and they do have the potential. Sadly I am yet to be convinced of Jogon’s potential as of yet, their victory over team-decerto AKA team-soontoberelagated was a good one, but something a little more is required before people will stand up and notice. YoYotech have this one by me, but I’ll be watching.

#7 IN DIV : P 2 W 1 L 1 D 0
#3 IN DIV : P 2 W 1 L 1 D 0
Well here we go again, SGL Premiership division seems to be turning up a lot of interesting matches this week and this one certainly falls into that category.  vi SHINRYUKEN! the prospect winners of “SGL team with broken caps lock” are the second team to fall foul of SGLac’s mysterious ways this season, after having a player caught cheating v ukie Say It Aint So last week I’m sure there is a degree of uncertainty within the team and they will be anxious to get another three points on the board to ‘steady the boat’. The rumoured return of de JAEDOR to fill the gap left will be an interesting one if found to be true; the addition will strengthen the lineup and hopefully take SHINRYUKEN! back to winning ways.

uk sploshed! are yet another of the six teams who currently find themselves on three points in the division, after a win over uk jog on in week one and then a hammering by dk strOng~ last week they will certainly be looking to get back to winning ways. This lineup has a lot of potential with some very good players both new and old, sx KyleSt, br deno` and the oldschool legend that is sx Highlander bring a lot of strength and depth to this lineup and I see no reason why they shouldn’t give SHINRYUKEN! and for that matter any other team, a very good game.

This could be a case of SHINRYUKEN! falling after last week’s cheating fiasco, on the other hand it could have made little difference depending on how much time the team has found to practice this weeks, on a normal day I would have sploshed! down to lose this one, but I do think that now is the time to get points for all of the teams, and with other matters on their minds SHINRYUKEN! can’t be at the top of their game. Sploshed! to take it, but I’m happy to be wrong.

I suspect that by now it has become a little obvious to everyone dk strOng~ are the team to beat this season in SGL Premiership, if the bookies were taking bets then these guys would be the favourites and I really can’t see them losing a game this season if they keep up the level of dominance they have so far shown. The lineup is a strong one, the team work looks good and with two wins in the bag already they must be feeling untouchable. The likelihood of a third win this week would be str0ng (do you see what I did there?) no matter the opponents and ironically they have found themselves against the one team they should absolutely decimate.

en team-decerto.com are, without question, not doing very well at the moment! They have had a shocking start to the season and things won’t be getting any better this week as they are trounced upon by the strOng boys; I already have these guys to be demoted – I would say prove me wrong, but I don’t think it’s possible on this occasion - strOng to decimate..

Kicking off week three are two teams tied on points in the form of sgl Sinned and
uk
yourzone. Both teams have a win and a loss to their name so the mental block of a team being unbeaten is gone I think both teams will really have a go at this game and be looking to take a win. Sinned suffered a loss to uk sexytime last week and yourzone only just got control of gs InControl. in a tightly fought game.

I tipped
sinned to beat sexytime last week but sgl classic™ failed to deliver that match winning performance he pulled off in the previous week. I think overall sinned are the better team however yourzone are very active so the skill vs team play battle could well be interesting. I see this as a fairly one sided game going sinned way as I think train is always a map for the big players and sinned have the edge in that respect.

Two rosters that would have been clashing in the invite tier once upon a time, this time its two divisions below but the outcome of this game could well have a big say on the who wins the division this season. uk sexytime got destroyed in their first game of the season but managed to take a win last week against sgl Sinned to save a bit of dignity and maybe proving that result was a mere blip.

uk NOT SAFE FOR WORK crushed an sgl Shuffle last week and look to be heading to the prem if they can keep that form up. Players like wa Sull and lovely sl~ have been producing the good for a while now so I expect some huge rounds from those two and this game may well turn out to be one to watch.

If sexytime win they are back in with a shout in winning the division however if they loose they might have to resign to the playoffs again.

These two teams are the only two who have suffered two losses (a lot of twos I know) so I don’t expect this to be pretty. Both teams look like they will be fighting their way out of relegation in an uphill battle if they don’t take a win here. br cLip are hugely underachieving they are lacking practise from the look of it and with a roster as strong as theirs once they hit form they are going to be hard to beat.

This is the perfect time for gs InControl. to grab a point but if cLip plan on a resurge InC could well be in for a battering. InC were a good team back in the day but I think after the time out they are going to struggle at this level especially with the young keen beans. They are not a team to be overlooked but I think cLip can take their first game of the season.

Here are my two favourite teams how could I possibly predict this game? sgl Shuffle got a massive STFU from uk NOT SAFE FOR WORK after being thoroughly offended by my prediction beforehand. Hopefully a lesson will be learnt by en Darkninja and he will let his cs do the talking in future so he doesn’t have egg on his face this week.

sgl locked are taking the division by storm at the moment flying high at the top, they have faros powerhouses and the return of
so Styles and at the moment are looking fairly untouchable. Both teams don’t like being predicated to lose or infect being underdogs however the difference Is Locked are coming through the adversity and are performing week in week out. Shuffle on the other hand crumbled last week and I can’t see them taking a result this week maybe Darkninja can prove me wrong?

eu Satyr proved me wrong last week with their ever improving line-up they took strong win over br cLip last week and are joint top with sgl Locked going into the third game of the season.

sgl Ninthplague see themselves sitting in the mid table pack with a win and a loss they will be looking to separate themselves from the group this week just as satyr will be looking to edge even further ahead taking three wins from three before they have to face the ‘big dogs’ of the division.

I know its early in the season but these are the type of games that are vital come the end of the season the mid table teams often have a say on who goes up and who goes down so satyr will need t brush ninthplague aside to keep on locked’s heals while ninthplague will be looking to stay away from the drop zone and look towards a playoff position
.

Like uk sexytime vs uk NOT SAFE FOR WORK these gamers a few seasons ago would be at top tier and some individuals in the bets team in the UK. Both teams boast huge amounts of talent and experience are oozing out of either roster.

Another thing the teams have in common is they don’t play too much and seem to kind of be a bunch of mates rather than a team looking to go far. If either team wanted they could be amazing however
sgl isomore are retired gamers and sgl BLACKSUNS better players now play css. A close game im sure and it will be hard to predict as anyone could play but im going to but blacksun due to the fact they will actually know the players who they are playing against.

va MEGA CHETSMODE ACTIVATED took a great win last week against a fourman sgl isomore this could be a result that will mean a lot later in the season as im sure against five ismore would have taken it being one of the stronger teams in the division.

sgl Flattering To Deceive the favourites, a team most people like, they have some huge gamers namely the trio of wf kelevra-, uk f0zbop and so warren. fOz has found himself as the first name down on the team-UK team sheet as wanted by the community and rightly so. With all due respect Megachets don’t offer anything in this match to worry FtD, I see this as putting Mike Tyson against a punch bag….. sure the bag will swing and move but that’s not going to stop Tyson smashing it to bits. An easy game for FtD I think they will be putting their practise into the isomore game next week more than this and expect a comfortable win.

sgl euphoria will be riding high from a shock victory over sgl BLACKSUN a game I predicted them to get smashed in and they took a very comfortable win. sgl versatileGaming [CS] smashed sgl asdf as predicted so no shock there this game is on train and I expect versatile will have the more polished tactics and team play.

Euphoria have shown how being an underdog can work in their favour and they could well turn out to be the uk Inconcessus of this season a team who always gets counted out but pulls off the shocks! Im still going to go against them this week as for some reason I feel versatile will take it however I will not
at all be surprised if euphoria win and if they do I will be backing them as more than one hit wonders.

sgl Stimulus smashed uk straightsix * AMD last week in after being smashed the week before the championship division is a strange one this season. uk HardFrag have been more consistent however…. Losing both games and they are now rooted at the bottom of the division. I always saw this team as one with good potential but maybe they are slightly out of their depth this season.

Stimulus have picked up
uk unDa who will be a huge boost for the team it also looks as if uk nGen is more active so again a big boost as hes a great player. I don’t think HardFrag will be allowed to get into the game however If they do panic mode could set in and stimulus might roll over like they did in the season opener? Who knows? If stimulus takes the early rounds I see one way traffic and hardfrag are driving into the deep stuff if that lose.

Both teams at the bottom of the table not a huge surprise for lt asdf however I would of expected uk straightsix * AMD to be higher, this will be the game where they take their first win. asdf are my pick to go down and although I don’t know a great deal about them I know that s6 have some great players and a win I see them taking a win without getting out of first gear.
