Years on, Counter-Strike 1.6 still refuses to go quietly into the night.
Things don't get much simpler than a straightforward game of CS and here at theSGL we have done our best to breath life into the game over many years. Here is another offering from us to help raise the heart rate of the community and give not just a way to play some casual matches but also to finally answer that age old question of "high-med-low" skill levels.
They say in football that the table never lies and teams are placed exactly where they deserve to be, the same will be true of the Counter-Strike 1.6 ladder - you will be placed not by our opinion of where you deserve to be but controlled by how good you actually are. "FTW" and you will be flying high but "FTL" and you'll be ranked equally as lowly.
The ladder system will be set up matching that of the football system with divisions as follows:
- Premiership (10 teams)
- Championship One (20 teams)
- Championship Two (20 teams)
- Division One (20 teams)
- Division Two (20 teams)
- Open Division (Unlimited Teams)
To start things off the first twenty teams will be entered into the Championship One tier. The next twenty into the Championship Two tier (and so on). One all divisions are full, then all teams will be entered into the Open Division.
At the end of each month there will be a relegation and promotion as follows :
- Premiership - 3 teams down
- Championship One - 5 up, 5 down
- Championship Two - 5up, 5 down
- Division One - 5 up, 5 down
- Division Two - 5 up, 10 down
- Open Division - 10 up
Please note that the above numbers are a MINIMUM and we may well move more up or down depending on activity and other factors.

Please note -
Due to Dreamhack, SGL admins will be unable to add any teams to the event for most of Friday. We will add as many as we can tonight, and then again as soon as we have internet connection on Friday evening. So don't panic if you're not added if you apply during this period.

just in case anyone hadn't worked this out yet, the quicker you register for the event the higher division you will start in. first 20 into C1 then the next 20 into C2 and so on...
prem will be filled by first month promotion from various divs....

would sign up if it was 1 big ladder like esl, if theres 10 or 20 teams in a div probs means you can't get games anywhere close to as often unlike esl you get them INSTANTLY once opening a match maker.
p.s. if my post is deleted for the mention of esl it's a bit sad, im just pointing out that imo it should be ran like theirs, also an option of making more than 1 roster for games like they have is great so you can enter the ladder with other players than just the one's you play with in the season (as they are different tournaments it should be fine!)

your first point is more than valid and is being considered already. your second point, you lost me at "if this is deleted blah blah blah". but teams will only have one CS roster. It's one team per GAME not per tournament, not planning on changing this, would be a serious reworking of a lot of code.

ok, the race is on - who will create and win the first CS ladder match ?
in a special one time off i will personally DOUBLE the point for the first team to win a tie (and in special honor of the match I will also set the losing team points back to the default of 1500 .....)

Does our team page have to have all members signed up before we can apply? It's just im waiting to sort some issues regarding my steam id being transfered between sgl accounts as i cant login to the old 1.
And none of my team are currently online for them to sign up to my team :D

Couldn't you just do what you did for that 2v2 tournament Mark? Make a "CS Ladder" team option? Being realistic about the state of non-professional CS is at the moment, if you did this I think it would make the ladder a lot more active if people could make more easily make their own mix teams for it. For example, I'm on e-pigs roster for playing the odd SGL league game when they need me, but I'd also like to make my own team for this, but that would mean having to leave the e-pigs roster.. I'm sure there are quite a few people in this situation :)

Relating to my previous comment, I guess it depends which direction you want to go with it. If you removed the 72 hour waiting period for people joining / leaving teams (for the ladder), I think it would make it a lot more active. If you want activity - this would enable people to be like "bored, there's 3-4 of us who normally play together, lets get a 5th and play an SGL ladder game" - then they can just add them to the roster for that game, play it, then he can leave again if he wants to play for another team in the ladder. Obviously this means it's not purely a ladder for "teams" as it were, so wouldn't be as useful for deciding rankings for future SGL divisions, but in terms of activity I think that would work the best. What do you all think?

I know what you mean zak, fact of the matter is that without redesigning the site code literally from the ground up it wont change. Further fragmenting things so you could be in two different CS teams at once would be a major problem.
you know, by far the simplest and most efficient way of doing this would simply be to stop running LEAGUE cs.

That's fair enough, obviously I don't know how the sgl site/database works, just if it was easy to do it would probably be the best thing activity wise :) Hopefully it'll become really popular and active anyway!

If you play Season matches on Sunday and Ladder matches on Weds then you have enough time to switch between two rosters constantly :p

Lots of teams in the ladder, but no one that seems to want to play any matches. You'll have to forgive me if we start throwing teams around before they CBA to even play a match or two. Either play or dont guys, but it's one thing getting on the ladder, another thing entirely in actually making use of it....
seriously - don't you like to play CS guys ?

was a great idea but... everyone declines and thesgl website time is wrong we challenged at 9pm but it appeared as 1am... maybe look into that and also the fact that if everyone declines all the time... no matches will be played O_o
