urm, does your net go off completely??
take your password off your router

i had problems before, if not.. try portforwad, might be dropping ur connection, or getting blocked.
http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm

how hot is the usb dongle?
if its bare hot then thats your problem, i had to use wireless at uni since i broke my ethernet port in my room

and i had 2 netgear usb dongles and had to keep switching them over every so often since they kept overheating.

If its got software it will be conflicting with the windows software =] i got lagspikes and DC when i used one. If your on xp go into administrator ----> services and turn off windows zero config, see if it fixes it if not you can just turn it back on! =]

portforwarding wouldnt make a difference to his connection dropping.
dont take your password off your router as that wont make a difference either.

hmm, WZC and the software that comes with it usually wouldnt make a conflict as WZC and the software that comes with it only manages which wireless network you connect to pretty much.
Might make a difference, try using WZC instead of the software that comes with it. (as slayer stated)
some usb dongles wont function without the software.. so it might not work whatsoever without the software.

use ethernet, wireless is dog for ping rly.
The signal strength is obviously how strong the link is, but it also estimates the throughput of the connection.
at uni when the strength was excellent i got 16 ping and tghe full 10mb connection
when it was at low/verylow i got 19 ping and only bout 60kb/s max download
the only time the ping would be effected with the signal strength is if it is very low as the connection would keep dropping and causing you to flushentity

sounds like dog settings with your router, google your router and see if you can find some advanced settings, i did this for my dads laptop and it boosted his signal from low to very good and his pings to bbc.co.uk went from 60 to 12
try fiddling with the router settings
try using ethernet and see if you have the same problem
