i don't think people in the uk respect the armed forces enough, we might not be the biggest or most technologically advanced forces in the world, but there is no doubt about it, we are the best.

Some people may not agree with what they are doing, but they are there, and personnaly i wish them all a safe return when the time comes.

more food for thought

watched the start and got the gist of it, they are getting paid to do it though, and do it out of choice.

mate the papers do not stop prattling on about it. this is likely to be unpopular but in my opinion if anything they are given too much respect.

fair play to the people who didnt have any other prospects and went to the army but i have very little respect for the armed forces as a whole particularly when you see how squaddies behave when out and about, they'd sooner get in a punch up with their own countrymen as any iraqi. a far cry from past generations.

people say 'you'll say that until you need them' but when am i likely to need em? i haven't so far in almost 23 years and if the government stopped liberating countries that are nothing to do with me there'd be no need for this hand-wringing, 'our brave boys' rubbish that the likes of lorraine kelly can't stop going on about.

fact is none of em are doing it 'for our country' cos the country is hardly in jeopardy because of this 'war'. like everyone else who works they are there for the money. the danger they face i can appreciate, however so does that bloke who goes up and changes wires on pylons so all of us can have electricity, you don't see him lauded a national hero.

tl;dr

md.Gaq, I'm sure they have done something for you in 23 years. For starters I think oil plays a big part in your life, and in what they're doing.

I think the guy who has to put out the first cone on the fast lane of the M1 deserves a lot of credit too!

I read a story about a soldier from the UK who was walking down the street in America still wearing his uniform past a bar full of bikers sitting outside drinkin beers and having a good time. As he walked past they all stood up and saluted him. The next day hes walking down the street in the UK, still wearing his uniform, and people bump into him, grumble, dont even acknowledge who he is. Disgusts me to no end.

Ive got a mate in the paras who came home last week and told me theres a near certain chance that his regiment is going to be shipped out to Afghanistan in september, he turned 18 three weeks ago. I respect him more than the vast majority of people i know for how eager he is to go and fight, but i do not envy him at all. Sad

i've also got mates who are in the army now. when they come back and we all go out on the piss i find it very hard to talk to em anymore. it's all one track. racist, nationalist, bigoted and pig-headed pretty much for the majority of the time.

They never shoud of went to Iraq with the dumb yankees..
Harsh to say but life for the people in iraq was better under the regime of Sadam (fr most of em)
USA needed an excuse for a war for oil so they made up a story bout weapons of mass destruction so UK would support them.
Nothing noble in diein in anova country for freakin oil

I hope ur mates get back safe tho.
