Buying a bike, it is going to be the YZF 125 for £3000. What 125cc would you buy, here's two decent ones.

YZF 125

http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/Photos/2008-YZF-R125-static-03_tcm.jpg

Aprillia RS125

http://www.phillipmccallen.com/new-bikes/ProdImages/RS125-06-2.jpg

The RS125 is a 2stroke and unrestricted can go over 100mph. Problem is alot of people have spent alot on engine parts as they are not very reliable.

The YZF is a 4stroke, great looking and reliable but top speed of around 76mph.

Don't know if anyone is into bikes, I think they are fantastic pieces of tuned engineering. Theres my 2 pence.

had an RS125 for about 2 years from new, cost me about 3k and went 120mph, From my experience it was a great bike but as you said very unreliable, I had the power valve clog up 3 times which meant it wouldnt go over 6,000 rpm

If I were you mate id either wait and get somink bigger or get somink bigger and de-restrict it to 33bhp Smile

Cheers for the input KapA. To be fair mate, although it's always nice to have something bigger, the insurance would sting me. It's a case of needs more than wants, I don't need a 400cc-600cc, I do want one though.

I need a small bike to start off and have a bit of fun, speed isn't the factor, I did have a go on my friends CBR600RR, scared the living day lights out of me when I pulled the throttle back.

what about a Gilera Runner 125 or aprillia sr125 scooter, much more reliable and cheap, but I dont know if u wouldnt want a scooter.

Id deffo go for the yamaha pal if your set on either of these Smile gl

Some interesting choices there. I 've never been big on scooters. The sound irritates me and generally I associate scooters with older people or young dickheads who cut in and out of traffic. (Sorry about the stereotype)

Cheers KapA, I have decided the bike I am getting just thought a bit of bike talk is something different on here, glad to see someone is into them. Glasses

1% of bikes on the road 20% of accidents involve bikes? Yes it really is shocking. I'll be out on mine with a high visibility jacket and lights on.

sounds quite nice Big grin

I'll get a photo of myself up on the YZF. It costs £3000, putting a £1000 desposit down with £160 a month for 1 year.

Going for blue leathers, really cool padded gloves and boots with "the stig" helmet, or possibly a bright blue skull airbrushed one.

I take it this is your first bike BD? I know the feeling of excitement you're feeling right now when you get your first bike, get all your leathers and shit. Good fun but sometimes the weather just sucks too hard to bike it, so ended up selling and getting lessons Smile

Then I ran out of money and now don't have either

I have the car for the winter and the rain hehe (06 corsa 1.0), but I understand your view. In bad winters i've heard people have electric heated gloves because the cold goes right through the gloves and bites your fingers off.

Good luck with your lessons, get some cash saved. Driving a car is really expensive, one of the reasons I am getting a bike.

I put away £40 per week into a savings account for the driving lessons, didn't take many weeks as each single lesson was £20 and I was putting double that in so had enough for the test and to pay a chunk of the insurance.

yeah i came off in the rain slippy going over paint on the road in the wet it's not safe

back when it was cool to rip it with 20 of your mates down busy hills overtaking old people

the feeling of flying through the air motionless for 3 seconds was definitely worth it though

Slight change of plan. After plenty of discussion with alot of friends with bikes, bike shops and general browsing of forums they have come to a conclusion which I should consider. I will be bored of a 125cc in 3 weeks, the first bike I should really pick is a 400cc-600cc.

So, off we go for a different bike.

CBR 600 RR

Ninja ZX6RR

Bandit 6 are sick for long rides also look at the gsx-r 600, mates have got fucking nice bike

125cc id say cagiva mito or Aprilla 125cc, both killers on petrol though. i had a gilera runner 125 bored out to a 172 with malossi variator and a race pipe. did 93 on the flat but fucking blew up haha.

so GSX-R 600

OR

Cagiva mito

CBR's are really reliable bikes and there's a lot of them so parts won't be expensive to replace, so if you're looking for a long term bike CBR the way to go. Ninja's are amazing bikes I've ridden my uncles but expensive to maintain. If you got the cash and want to flash get a ninja everyone loves them, but may have to get a lot of parts imported if you need big repairs because they're kawasakis.

Big budget = Ninja
Reliable longterm bike = CBR

Definately true you'll get bored of your 125cc if you want to really enjoy them you want a bike that you'll never go topspeed on, always exciting then Big grin

haha. I like it, always good to know its there. Have done a few insurance quotes, can get it close to £1000 to insure a 600. Think I am going to bide my time for 3 months and save before deciding on 1 out of the above.

Cheers for input. Shown quite alot of interest, wasn't expecting it really Smile
