Basically there going to smash some particles into each other at near the speed of light to see if it would create "The Big Bang" again.
Its going to possibly cause a black hole or anti-matter which will swallow the earth.

Its a good idea if you ask me, will be interesting, it can be shut down instantly so i doubt it would swallow the earth lol

I don't think it will but the fact of the matter is that nobody has ever tried it so therefore they don't actually know whats going to happen. Its all theories

I've just asked AQA if its going to bum us all and they replied -
"AQA: There is no chance that the Large Hadron Collider will produce an Earth destroying black hole. Any produced will decay in a tiny fraction of a second."

wont cause the end of the world
CERN is one of the most hightech scientific locations in the world
they will have checked, double checked, triple checked, asked someone else to check
finally pondered their checking and once again, checked...
and I doubt, if anything, it would create a blackhole, they have been using partile accelerators for years now and know every possible shutdown manouver/emergency manouvers
-
the freaky thing is, I was reading about CERN lastnight in a Dan Brown book (Angels and Demons)

Yes, but they have never smashed 2 together this fast before.

Wilkeh the way im thinking about it is, how do they know, that the speed their doing it, is indeed the speed that the two particles colided to create the bigbang, personally I think it is a guestimation to what it could be..

Its gonna create blackholes but they will be so tiny and last for such a short period they wont do any harm at all.

10 billion dollars just to smash some particles together.... dribblers
