Hey guys,
As I'm off to uni on sunday, I just remembered someone mentioning a while back that Kent uni block steam and other things in halls.
The question is... who knows the way around this?
I remember someone talking about 'tunnelling software' or something.
Cheers for any help!

i was in tyler c at kent uni 2 years ago. i got thru the firewall for downloads and most tcp ports (vent etc etc) but sadly when i managed to get thru it on cs and quake it was far too laggy to play. some ppl played wow easily enough though i think.
basically get sockscap and run your programs through that and make an account on yourfreedom.
sorted. need more help just ask.

You'll need a GOOD paid proxy service. There are some, but most are very, very, very underground.
PM me if your willing to spend around 20 quid a month and I might be able to sort you out with a 10Mbup/5Mb down service.

hes right, yourfreedom, i used that when at uni, worked great for me (you get disconnected every hour, and you can connect for a max of 6 hours) unless you pay like £5 a month or something, its really worth it tho

some unis will unblock ports for you if you ask them, always worth asking i guess.

if the uni firewall/router setup is any good, you wont be able to use any progs to bypass it.

Its a joke they are blocked to be honest. I'm lucky where I'm at uni they arn't blocked. There is no reason whatsoever to block steam, sure you should be doing work but they don't stop you going out (unless you go to cambrige where they actually check your facebook to check your not being too sociable), if its because of bandwidth, where I stayed last year and this year the internet has worked perfectly for everyone with gods knows how many people gaming.
Most people wouldn't be bothered without steam but you do get a lot of free time no matter how much you go out, and personally I prefere playing cs than watching tv all the time.

Im in halls and I get to go on anything, im just that awesome.
But yea, first port of call is to ask them, if it fails try and complain to someone. Will be easier then a tunnel.

That's pathetic lol. At my Uni if you don't get the work done then it's your fault.
There's no one around checking facebooks, no one will block things at halls or anything. Your responsible for your own actions. That's the whole point of University, and in turn growing up.

YourFreedom is the way forward.
I spent 8 months at uni thinking it didn't work - when I bothered to configure it properly it did.
You will need:
YourFreedom (preferably with a subscription to it)
SocksCap
Go to the YourFreedom site and there's specific instructions for how to get Steam working.

That will definitely never work.
