well, if he can boot in safe mode. Get him to give a system restore a try. It's probably not going to have any affect but it's always worth it as then you know it's not a software related error and a hardware one.

oh after looking at pictures would appear its not the same problem i had recently. my laptop had that. the graphics card was just fucked and had to be replaced. im guessing its gfx related, best shot is to try new drivers etc, and then perhaps a reformat if that doesnt work. otherwise buy a new gfx =[

if he can get into safe mode then this should eradicate the gfx card being at fault, imo it's a drive related issue

its the card. had this tried loads of different drivers but was def the card
