rafael and fabio are 5'8. jones is only 5'11. Smalling is 6'3 however.

That is a fucking liability at set pieces. I'm pretty sure this is the main reason Fabio and Rafael are never in the same defensive line, unless it's a mickeymousecupgame.

Doesn't change the fact that there's an inordinate amount of emphasis put on the importance of height and strength in the EPL and other UK leagues. Carles Puyol barely scrapes 5"10' and he's consistently been good enough to play in any defensive partnership anywhere in the world for the past decade.

It's the same problem we have all the way through to youth level in this country.
