According to sources at cnFrag.com, WEM staff have stated privately they will be dropping Counter-Strike 1.6 from their list of supported games.
Joining 1.6 on the scrapheap will be Warcraft 3 and in their place will be League of Legends and Starcraft 2.
The news will be an especially big blow for the 1.6 competitive scene having just learned that WCG will no hold PC gaming tournaments. Speculation is also rife that other big tournaments are set to follow suit in what looks like being the final year for serious competitive 1.6
WEM had announced that they were putting the tournament back for a year following the last one 2010 and it now seems that it will return but in a very different format.
No official statement has been made about the decision but it seems likely it will be made at some point next week.
People aren't gonna suddenly stop playing 1.6 because it gets dropped by these big sponsors and companies. There will still be tournaments and events for years to come probably mostly in Eastern Europe/Scandinavia.
