If you let windows install the drivers itself try manually installing your graphics driver, also check if vsync is off (not that it should make much difference at all with your system but it's worth a try).

I must admit i thought CS (1.6) doesn't use more than a single core?

what's your netgraph saying? try using rivatuner or similar to force the fan speed to 100% and see how it performs then.

try running a dvd or bluray while you have the game open...

Disable onbaord video (if you have it) and just double check your nvidia control panel to see if you've got your 550 selected for cs and other games... on my laptop i'm running onboard graphics for flash, web browsers, desktop etc and the standalone graphics for games.

check your bios settings for ram and cpu, check they're actually running at the correct speeds/timings

grab a copy of hirens boot cd and do a memtest + disk analysis? :)

If i installed xp now, I would get 100fps. So why do I get 40-60fps with windows 7?

my 64 bit version of windows plays cs perfectly fine, it might be related but its not the issue. installed all windows updates and updated all graphics? if you have then rollback to the previous version of the graphics driver. naturally reinstall cs, done your rates and fps_max right? ;)

windows 7 64bit home premium im running, i run about 250 fps on source, so surely running through a smoke on 1.6 should be fine? i did google it before coming on here and quite alot of people said it was to do with windows 7 and try running in compatability mode, which i tried, but still no joy... netgraph runs 100fps, as soon as i go through a smoke or zoom in with a sniper into one it drops to around 65-50fps... ill look into the disk checker plo... thanks xx

older drivers would probably fix it. I used to get 100fps flat on win7 with 7600gt, so i cant imagine any newer card struggling regardless of win7.
