University Competition

Alright lads!

Been at university for a while now, awesome fun! Course is shit but loving’ the sport and social side. Anyway.. recently joined the lan games society and it’s a right laugh, played loads of games I normally wouldn’t have, and met some fellow cs players.

Basically i was thinking about how there’s a university league at pretty much every competitive sport. From ultimate Frisbee to paintball. So why not gaming? You could play online qualifiers, then the finals at lan or something. Be easy to prove if players were actually from the university because everyone has ID’s and/or NUS cards.

And thinking logically, University societies don’t fold overnight and they have student union funding. Making it all abit easier. And another lan event on the calendar cant be a bad thing surely.. even if it is only for uni students. There has probably been something similar if not the same in the past but regardless, its seems to have stopped now. Would be relatively easy to set up after discussing it.

A similar thing has been done in Sweden a couple of times and it's worked out pretty well.

Online group play with LAN finals is what they did I believe.

only problem is all the WoW whores making my uni connection give me about 300 ping however when no1 is downloading or anything i get like 5 ping woo

Yeh but thats only the uni run halls. Im sure teams could find a place to get together and play officiall matches. I'm guessing it would need its own website and stuff. Probably the best way of doing it. I'll ask our SU for some funding for it.

This should be fun if we can get it off the ground

about 3 people play cs here (that i know of), only one people would know is evilal

my mate went nottingham and they had lan servers setup in his halls or summat for CS, loads of them used to play

yeah we did, but everyones TERRIBLE. as in, just heard of the game sort of terrible

few ppl play at leeds, some good players, some clueless.

Yeah but it dosnt really matter how good you are, sort of adds to the fun. And teams wouldnt stay bad or good because you get new people at uni every year. And you dont have to play cs lol.

We're trying to get this up and running for mid october 2009. Possibly earlier but not sure yet. Need uni representatives and liasions. And some decent admins. Intrested let me know. Think i may start a facebook group? Seems to be the done thing as 90% of students live on facebook.

Was thinking, games for the opening season cs, css, tf2 and supreme comander? Any imput again let me know!
