Ok first off i would just like to say i know very little about computers bar the general bits and bobs.

Basically i have BT internet that connects from the phoneline and with that i got the homehub so connecting to wireless was a piece of cake.

Now my parents want to move onto wireless yet i dont know much about it as thier on NTL/VIRGIN cable internet.

Is it just a case of getting a router that deals with cable connections and just connecting the NTL/VIRGIN modem to the router via ethernet and running any softerware provided with the router?

The end result thier after is have the main computer connected via ethernet cable and thier laptops running on wireless.

If it helps thier current modem box thing is an old NTL one (around 3 + years old)

get a router that has both wired and wireless capability and connect the virgin/ntl box thingy into the port that takes the connection on the router and just set it up.

I have a similar setup at my house :> if you need any suggestions of routers id reccomend WPN824v2 by netgear Big grin

gavin all you need to do is this.

Get a wirless router thats made for cable connections, it will say this on the box.
when you get ion just run the disk as most of them tell you when and were to connect the wires and when to plug it in to the comp and modem.

Then let the software do its thing, after that most will ask you about secruity settings i would advise you to make sure they set some sort of protection up as its easy to do and makes things easier in the long run.

If the laptops are wireless just make sure the wlan switch is on then the laptop will do the rest untill it needs the secruity key which you then type in.

If there not you will need wireless dongles or net cards for the laptops but the same theory applies once installed.
