ESWC Grand Finals 2008 : Day One - Noon

After a long and tiring journey out to San Jose which saw the team struggle through the Iron Man movie up to four times each from the in flight movie options - Kurtis was even driven to watch some romantic comedy by the end of the flight - we finally hit Houston and with it - the bar. A couple of icy beers / cokes / burgers later and everyone was right as rain and heading off for our second flight which landed us in San Jose about 9pm local time. We passed what appeared to be a large street party on the way to the hotel but when we got there it all seemed strangely queit. Further investigation revealed the party we had seen three blocks away was in fact the ESWC welcoming party so we headed off to get stuck in. Sadly we arrived just as the free bar closed and the food all dissappeared - along with all the other players. Bit of a shame really - I don't know about you but I quite like free bars! Everyone was up and out of the hotel for 8am and we walked five minutes down the road and got everyone registered thean headed off for a complimentary breakfast for all the players put on a nearby hall. Lots of pastries consumed and coffees drunk we headed back over to the lan and got everyone sat down and got ready to take ont eh rest of the world. The first game played was DDK who sadly lost hs first match - as I write this he's two blocks down the street taking on his second opponent however. DeMuslim nailed his first opponent but again he is playing his second match now - against wc3 megastar Moon. Nemesis came through the trackmania qualifiers in the medium seed bracket finishing fourth of eight in his seeding group. The main event will start soon for that. Obviously you'll want to know about Dignitas - well they started badly against Millenium (with whom they are fighting for second place in the behind MiBR) but managed to win the first half 8-7 on train as CT. We all know thats a lot of rounds to make up as T but much to my relief they managed it after a great T half which saw them take it 8-7 again and 16-14 overall. The guys were fairly queit for most of the match but by the end of it were a bit more pumped up and noisy. There will be images and videos posted here at the end of the day (my day - not yours - so that will be early morning as we are some 8 hours behind you here).
