TF2CL : Grand Final

Posted by sgl Uzi on 10th Apr 2008 @ 8:35am - 8 Comments

The majority of the competitive Team fortress 2 community turned out to contest this event when it started earlier this year. Here we are just sixty three matches later and the two 500lb gorillas of European TF2'ing meet up for what looks like it's going to be one hell of match as the powers that are se Kompaniet and eu 4 Kings.Packard Bell clash on the field of battle in this best of three event...

se Kompaniet vs eu 4 Kings.Packard Bell 10/04/08 8:00pm Details

Map #1 : GRANARY - Map #2: WELL - Map #3: BADLANDS

The heat is on tonight as these two heavyweights lock horns in the event finale of the Team Fortress 2 Champions League sponsored by our friends at Game-Hosting.com the lucky winner will receive a top class Team Fortress 2 eighteen slot match server for a period of six months. As with all Game-Hosting servers this can be booted in various locations around Europe at the click of a button allowing you to play your match against opposition with the best possible ping and connection conditions to suit your location.

Live and exclusive tonight only on QUADV.com join Deman as he takes a deep breath in preparation for the non stop frantic action that TF2 delivers. Play by play, round by round , frag by frag - keep up with Deman as he keeps up with the match as it unfolds in rapid fire excitement. Simply head over to QUADV where they describe the match as :

After 2 Champions League nights in the Football we take it one step further as Thursday 10th April is a date to put in your diaries for theSGL Team Fortress 2 Champions League Finals.20:00 GMT 10th April - Four Kings vs Kompaniet - Granary, Well, Badlands Four Kings are perhaps the favourites coming into this match with a very close battle against Syre in the Semi-Finals which ended in an overtime Stopclock round on Gravel Pit. They will be looking to pick up theSGL before starting a busy season in the ETF2L. Kompaniet have been dominant throughout the tournament winning all their matches convincingly. They will want to get one up over their rivals in this match viewed as the clash between the top 2 in europe. The main story of this game along with the teams is perhaps the maps in which it is played. Viewed by many as perhaps the main 3 maps within Team Fortress 2 this game is surely due to be an epic encounter. Well, Granary and Badlands are perhaps the most entertaining maps I could dream of for this final so lets hope the game lives upto the challenge.QuadV will bring you Live Video Coverage on QuadV TV1 with Deman & Kee_RinG. ]]>

The teams have not had an easy route to the finals by any stretch of the imagination with se Kompaniet taking a triple win in the group stages against fi Neatmeat, se Unalleviated Suffering and at plan-B.TF2 before moving into the sudden death knockout stage and showing fr The Old School Team a clean set of heel before dispensing with a second French team fr foftwo and securing their final berth after a win over highly fancied German outfit de last one alive lock the door.

eu 4 Kings.Packard Bell for their part took their opening group stage games against fi The MIPC Organization and eu Special Air Services by 5-0 scorelines before giving us one of the most exciting matches (available on QUADV vod) of the event as they drew with eu Clan Fracture in their final group game. English stalwarts gay clanONE.tf2 were the first to fall before them in the knockout phase before the quarter final removal of fi sigh6 and the semi final victory against se syre.

The big question is who will come out on top in this final conflict tonight and the answer is that it really is too close to call with any certainty. Kompaniet may fancy the task at hand having already disposed of two French teams in the knockout stage and a good portion of the 4 Kings team are French themselves - could this be an omen or will this be a match too far for the Swedes ? Whichever way you look at it, these teams are both capable of mixing it with anyone, anywhere and anytime. Tonight they get stuck into each other. Don't miss it.

TF2 Champions League : Knockout Stage Begins

Posted by sgl Blizzard on 25th Feb 2008 @ 9:56am - 0 Comments

The Team Fortress 2 Champions League knockout stage begins tonight, with full coverage from Quadv, every Monday will see Quadv bring you a full video cast of one highlight match. This week we will see the mighty Clan United vs the German powerhouse Team GamerArea previously known as Rhinefire or Progressive eSports. Team GamerArea are slight favourites going into this game with them winning all there group round matches, however clan United will not be phased by this with them only narrowly losing one game in the groups stages. With these two teams being very closely matched it is hard to say who will come out on top, the maps and tactics may play a curial part of who will win but even with great tactics both teams big players will have to be on top form tonight. Any slips in concentration could prove costly with both teams capable of pouncing on any mistakes made. So join QuadV|Deman at 8pm UK time (9pm CET) to see the full outcome of this classic encounter.

With the majority of games being played over the week here are a few reminders how the knockout phase will work:

All the knockout phase matches will be played over a best of three format. For those unfamiliar with the workings of this system what this means is :
 • There is a pool of five maps to choose from. Well, Granary, Gravelpit, Dustbowl and the new kid on the block : Badlands
 • Each team will remove one map from the pool
 • Each team will then choose one map from the pool
 • The remaining map will be used as a tiebreaker in the event of each team winning one map.
 • Maps one and two can end in a draw but the third map must be played to a conclusion.

All Scores must be submitted to me (blizzard) please contact me via the website with the score of all 3 games and I will enter it. Games must be played the week of the fixture.

Finally I would like to wish all the teams the best of luck

TF2 Champions League : It's a knockout!

Posted by sgl Uzi on 19th Feb 2008 @ 8:27am - 1 Comments

It has been an entertaining run of matches over the past weeks and I'm sure there will have been many people who watched the QuadV casts (our thanks goes to Deman for his efforts - especially in the first match) who were surprised to find the relentless pace of TF2 was something of a shock when compared to the games "fun" public face.

There were a few one sided affairs (mainly involving the admin team who managed to lose the first two matches in under seven minutes each) but the time for such games is now past as the cream of the European Team Fortress scene lock horns in a bid to outplay, overcome and ultimately eliminate their opponents en route to the title.

It is our hope that we can once again prevail upon the most excellent guys at QuadV to cover featured games from this knockout phase and we look forward with excitement to the next round of matches which see some top teams fighting for the difference between progression to the next round and being dumped out of the contest in a flurry of comedy violence!

TF2CL : Live coverage tonight!

http://www.thesgl.com/go/6/

Week Three of the GameHosting.com Team Fortress 2 Champions League and what a match we have in store for you tonight! Live and exclusive only on QuadV.com, join your host Deman this evening from 20:00UK 21:00CET as he brings you full and uninterrupted coverage of...

The two teams meet on cp_gravelpoint which is a large sprawling ma[ broken up into four main areas. The Blue team spawns at a base which exits to both sites A and B. Both exits plac the player in perfect positions for snipers to pop their heads as they head down the narrow corridors straight into the line of fire. From personal experience have always found the left site (A) to be the easier of the two initial control points to capture but with only 6 players defending the two sites its easy to push a six man attack against only three defenders so whichever site is taken first all it really does is concentrate the defenders at the other control point. Assuming both are captured by the attacking team then control point "C" comes into play as everyone fights over the rickety wooden tower with the best giant laser gun in gaming history sat proudly on top of it.

Both teams will attack and defend twice. The team with the most points after 4 rounds wins. There is no time limit for this map. A melee round will be used to decide the teams. For thos eof you unfamiliar with a melee round, it is the TF2 equivalent of a 1.6 knife round except the baeball bats, broken bottles, bare knuckles, switchblades, bone saws, fireaxes, machetes, wrenches and shovels the teams beat their opponents senseless with are probably outlawed on the field of battle by some convention on war crimes... always a pleasure!

Again make sure you tune in to QuadV from 20:00UK 21:00CET this evening as these heavyweights of European TF2 pwnage face off in this third round match!

TF2 Champions League tonight

Posted by sgl Uzi on 29th Jan 2008 @ 9:35am - 0 Comments

Its week one of theSGL Champions League for Team Fortress 2 and the eyes of the European TF2'ing community are upon this week's fixtures and of course this weeks map - cp_granary an end to end battle accross a very long map where the long distances between captuer points often mean that speed is more important than firepower. The map is marked by a headlong dash for control of the central control point where it is usual to see scouts from each team facing off in this first encounter before being joined by the soldiers and demo men.

There is a great diversity of teams taking part in this event with some of the bigger names fielding their Fotress squads such as Four-Kings and Kompaniet, there are others of equally high skills who many of you may not be familiar with and then there are teams taking part just for fun and finally theSGL admins playing under the antique flag of "Boozeplatoon" who as usual will carry out their mission to at least make sure everyone on the opposite team dies at least once.

The fixtures which due to their nature of being played on teams owns servers will no doubt be played at varying times over the next few days are scheduled to begin tonight and will continue for three weeks until the group stage is finished. We then move into the knockout phase where the big guns will face off match by match until only one remains.

If you have any further queries at this time please do not hesitate to contact either Blizzard via IRC or send a query to mail@theSGL.com where we will reply as promptly as possible. Good luck to all the team competing (except when playing the admin team "Boozeplatoon" of course) and we look forward to some exciting match ups!

TF2 Champions League

Posted by sgl Uzi on 14th Jan 2008 @ 8:39pm - 7 Comments

The time has arrived for thirty two of the finest fighting units to pit their wits and skills against each other as we set out to find the number one Team Fortress 2 team here at theSGL. Over the coming weeks we will see battles fought around the cargo container strewn map that is Granary, firefights rage back and forth between the rushing trains of Well and the wide expanses of "the dish" in Hydro - along with all the other top class maps on offer.

Starting with the classic eight groups of four format and with each team playing each of the other teams once the top two teams in each of these groups will go through to a knockout section until one team covers themselves in glory and is crowned the Team Fortress Champions League winner!

Sponsored by our friends at Game-Hosting.com the lucky winner will receive a top class Team Fortress 2 eighteen slot match server for a period of six months. As with all Game-Hosting servers this can be booted in various locations around Europe at the click of a button allowing you to play your match against opposition with the best possible ping and connection conditions to suit your location.

Matches will be played on a teams own server throughout the tournament though we will be highlighting two matches each week of the event which will be played on our adminned Game-Hosting servers. These matches will also be featured with extensive previews of both the teams and players as well as a look at the map itself for those amongst us who may not be familiar with TF2 at this time. In addition to this we will ensure a TV proxy is available for the two featured matches and wherever possible we will endeavour to arrange video streaming and commentary of one of the two matches.

We are both prepared and happy to receive more than the thirty two initial places and should be the case we will arrange a play off round to determine some of the group stage places. Many of the stronger teams will be seeded directly into the group stage so any and everyone involved in a possible qualifying round will have a chance to show what they are made of.

Sign ups are open now and the early February start date for the group stage will be announced as soon as we know just how many teams we are dealing with and how many qualifiers we need to get played.

TF2L : Week Three

Full steam ahead into week three as we start to see some movement in the league tables that give us some indication of who may or may not what they are doing. The leaders on round difference at this time in the invite division are fi ColdFusion who take on who meet up with fi Team Novel in this Finland derby match where the leaders will be hoping to consolidate their position ahead of the massed French legions that are uk Four Kings.tf2 as they take on fellow countrymen fr foftwo.
Elsewhere it's bottom team
de veil who will be wanting to get some points on the baord as they meet up with mid tablers uk #charge which leaves us with the last of the three national derby ties as the wonderfully named se In Die Anale Combo go head to head with their dangerous compatriots at se Kompaniet

Two more UK teams step up to the plate and fill out the fixture list as uk xciteuk.tf2 show what they can do against hu superfreaks and fi MIPC Organization entertain uk Lucid.

As usual, for those of you who may be unfamiliar with the map (and the game itself, here's a run down on the sort of thing you can expect to see in a typical tie starting off with a movie overview of the map itself. This week - CP (control point) _GRANARY

The map Granary hosts five control points all of which must be captured by one team for that team to take a point.. Each team begins with the two control points nearest totheir base belonging to them and the central point waiting as neutral until either team captures it. Keeping the same format as other CP maps you can only capture the next point in sequence. That is to say if you capture the central point first you must then capture the next nearest point before moving on to the furthest one.

With the league fixtures being played as 6v6 and the teams needing a balance between defence and attack the class types selected here will as always be crucial. We do not host the TF2L league matches on our own servers but we are always pleased when the teams involved post a link to their TV proxy so other players who may not have experienced or played in an organised match can see how the teams set up and play an official tie. Check out the details page to see if there are any TV ip's available at this time.

TF2 : TF2L WeekTwo

Posted by sgl Uzi on 10th Dec 2007 @ 10:36pm - 6 Comments

Week Two of the TF2L and we move on to what I personally think is the most amazing looking map in any game. Be honest - with that giant ray gun type thing on top of the towering wooden structure it just demands that you leap into action and capture the area for nothing more than a good close up view.

The attacking side have three areas to capture each defended to the last man by the RED team who have a tough time on this map as there are so many different ways in and out of the initial two capture points. When these two points are captured then the third and final area comes into play.

Each team will attack defend twice each, successfully defending or capturing all three points gains that a point. The team with most points at the end wins !

TF2L : Week one

Tonight we see the first clashes in the TF2L (Team fortress 2 League) here at theSGL as the big names of the TF2 world face off in our new event as sixteen teams split between two divisions get stuck into what has become my favourite on line game (when i get chance of course!).

This first round of fixtures will see the teams attempting to dominate their opponent on cp_well. What does the CP mean ? The map has five control points which can be captured by standing by them until they change to your teams colour (no mean feat when everyone and his dog is trying to kill you).

At any one time only two control points are capturable the rest being locked and focussing the battle at these two points. The first team to "own" all five control points wins a point. The first team to five points or the team with the most points after thirty minutes wins the round.
